Coats for men: a brief through eyes of history and the world

Coats are one of the most [if not the most] revolutionized garment for men; from the ‘chainmaille to modern coats (like lounge coats, dinner coats, morning coats…), the fashion industry in coat making is indeed an expansive one.

COATS have been employed in vast number of ways- they normally help one to stay warm in cold season. Some coats are used in formal setting; some for semi-formal occasion and some are used casually. A man [especially one with a broad shoulder] will surely look cool and fashionable in a coat- with a coat on, the ‘gentleman’s mode’ [save for James Bond] is activated. To state the facts, some coats we have around today, were inspired by the military: for instance, the Pea Coat was made to protect seamen (the Navy) from the cold of the environment they operate on; the Trench Coat was also brought on during World War I.

The Pea coat has been so designed to keep one warm during winter and should the cold become harsher, an overcoat would do a lot of good; the Morning Coat and Lounge Coat fit perfectly when you are walking down the aisle with your ‘better half’; having an outing or a date for the evening, then a Dinner jacket (‘evening Lounge Coat) which is called ‘Tuxedo’ in the U.S, is the COAT you need on. However, if you want to stay casual with a coat on, go sport a Smoking Coat- this is what is called ‘Tuxedo’ in some parts of Europe?
